Okay, so. I was diagnosed with ADHD at 16. It was a blessing to get the diagnosis. I am now 28 and had my first session with a psychiatrist. This is to see if I have BD, BPD or PTSD. He hands down cleared ptsd. And said it’s either BD 2 or BPD.
Well discussing with the doctor I went over the times I’ve been medicated for ADHD. Which was 16-19 and I attempted again at like 26. Didn’t like concerta. My then doctor gave me Ritalin. Which I used for a week and used a lower dose than my doctor said, but I was getting high off it and promptly stopped using it. (Now I have a history of drugs so I kinda pick up on it quickly because I cannot allow myself to use again.) So I told this doctor about it. He then told me that I don’t have ADHD because if I did it wouldn’t have been able to get high off it.
And that’s where I’m confused. I thought that it doesn’t matter if you have ADHD or not that. It’s still a stimulant so it doesn’t matter if you have ADHD or not, if not used correctly it can get you high. (I did use it correctly). I also feel that ADHD is a very accurate diagnosis.
I guess that’s alot of taking for just trying to find out if Ritalin only gets you high if you don’t have ADHD
UPDATE: holy wow. Thank you all for the overwhelming amount of responses and opinions. It’s been an adventure this morning reading it all. I’ve decided I’m going to get a second opinion and see another doctor and go from there.
Thank you all for your help and understanding.
UPDATE: I really went over the conversation I had with this doctor and realized there were many things in our conversation that went against my beliefs. Against good practice and care for other humans. He also made some serious comments that for someone else could have been super triggering. I have decided to not continue with this doctor again. I will be looking for another one to help me on my journey.
Again, I want to thank you all for the opinions and helpful tips I appreciate the MOD as well. Honestly it was fairly overwhelming. But thank you all for the help on the topic. It really helped me reevaluate what I want.
